Giving Back at Christmas: More Than a Decade of Community Support

  • Row Image

For more than 10 years, Canberra Southern Cross Club members have helped make Christmas brighter for people across our community through our Christmas Giving Tree program.

Our Christmas giving journey began in 2016, when our venues partnered with the St Vincent de Paul Society’s Christmas Giving Tree Appeal. Members embraced the opportunity to donate gifts for local families doing it tough, helping to ensure more children could experience the joy of Christmas morning.

In 2022, we expanded the program and launched our own Canberra Southern Cross Club Christmas Giving Trees. Since then, each venue has supported a local community organisation, allowing gifts to be distributed directly to people in our region who need them most.

Over the years, we’ve been continually inspired by the generosity of our members. What started as a small collection of donated gifts has grown into a cherished Christmas tradition across our Clubs, with hundreds of presents helping to support local families, children and individuals each festive season.

The impact of every donation extends far beyond the gift itself. For a child, it may be the excitement of receiving a Christmas present they otherwise wouldn’t have had. For a family facing financial hardship, it can help ease some of the pressure that often comes with the holiday season. Most importantly, it reminds people that their community cares.

This year, our venues will once again support a range of local organisations making a difference in the Canberra region:

Stellar Canberra is supporting Canberra Hospital Foundation.
Woden is supporting Community Services #1.
Jamison is supporting The Salvation Army.
Tuggeranong is supporting Toora Women Inc.

We encourage all members and guests to get involved. Whether you donate a toy, book, gift card or essential item, every contribution helps spread a little more joy at Christmas.

For information on donation locations, gift suggestions and collection dates, keep an eye on our social media channels and in-club communications.

Together, we can help make Christmas brighter for those who need it most.
