A vital part of the Canberra Southern Cross Club’s ethos is contributing to our community. Every year we provide support to over 350 local community groups, schools, and charities, providing over $1.5 million in support.

Our goal is to demonstrate our commitment through the support of local events and activities that benefit the Canberra community as a whole.  Community Giving has been a major part of what we do since our establishment in 1972.

Our key programs

We have 5 key programs through which we supply cash, food, and services in kind to our community:

The Community Rewards Program lets you nominate a Community Group participating in the program, then we calculate the equivalent of 7.5% of the member’s spend on food and beverages at our Woden, Tuggeranong, Jamison, Yacht Club and Snapper & Co. to be donated to that group. Donating up to a $20,000 per group cap, funds are calculated monthly and distributed quarterly.

Our Community Giving Programs are reviewed annually (other than the 3 year Community Key Partner Program) by the Club’s Community and Membership committee through a formal application process, with each applicant required to provide their mission statement, key objectives, purpose and intended use of the funding.

All of the Club’s programs have clear guidelines regarding community purpose contributions and these are made available below. Our program guidelines state all successful applications must use funds in accordance with the provisions in the Gaming Machine Act 2004 (ACT) and the Gaming Machine Regulations 2004 (ACT) as amended and in force from time to time.

In addition, applications contain questions that enable the Club to form an opinion as to whether the funds are a community purpose contribution. This process allows the Club to assess each individual application and the intended positive impact the funding will have on the Canberra community.
