For over 40 years, Louisa Domestic Violence Service has been a vital support for the Queanbeyan/Palerang region, working tirelessly to create a safer, more secure environment for those impacted by domestic and family violence. As part of Molonglo Support Services—a not-for-profit community organisation—Louisa Domestic Violence Service remains committed to the vision of a world free from violence and abuse.

Louisa Domestic Violence Service was founded by a group of local women who drew inspiration from Louisa Lawson, Australia’s first female journalist whose writings drew attention to women’s risk of homelessness after leaving violent relationships. The service offers crisis intervention, crisis support and outreach support for people experiencing domestic and family violence to stay safely in their own homes.

For those requiring immediate safety, the service provides refuge crisis accommodation for women with or without children escaping domestic and family violence. It also operates a small number of transitional housing properties to help families rebuild their lives in safety.

Beyond emergency assistance, Louisa Domestic Violence Service supports women, men, and children by offering practical resources and emotional care. Their work includes helping individuals find stable housing, providing financial and legal advice, connecting families to health and education services, and addressing employment challenges.

Through the Canberra Southern Cross Club’s Community Rewards Program, Louisa Domestic Violence Service receives critical funding that directly supports its clients. These contributions help provide essentials such as food, clothing, household items, and programs for women and children recovering from trauma.
