Community Rewards Spotlight: Knitted Knockers

  • Row Image

Knitted Knockers Canberra, an organisation driven by passionate volunteers, is making a significant difference in the lives of women who have battled breast cancer and undergone mastectomy. Through their commitment and the support of the CSCC Community Rewards Program, they create special handmade breast prostheses for women using materials like 100% cotton yarn and packaging supplies.

These prostheses are not just pieces of knitted fabric; they symbolise resilience and the unwavering support of a community that cares. Made possible by the generous contributions from volunteers, the organisation utilises funds from the CSCC Community Rewards Program to purchase essential materials. These materials include 100% cotton yarn, hobby fill, cellophane bags for packaging, postcards, printing, and postage bags, all vital components in creating kits.

What sets Knitted Knockers apart is their commitment to inclusivity. Understanding the diverse needs of women, the organisation produces prostheses in sizes ranging from A to G, ensuring that every woman, regardless of her body type, finds a perfect fit and comfort in their creations. The impact of their efforts reaches far beyond the borders of Canberra; the prostheses have reached Breast Care nurses at both Canberra Private and Public Hospitals. Moreover, they have extended their caring hands to women in regional areas of New South Wales and even to the Oncology Unit in Fiji, where their heartfelt gesture was warmly embraced.

As the organisation expresses profound gratitude for the support received, they look forward to a future where their partnership with the CSCC Community Rewards Program continues to flourish.

Elizabeth Samuels, Team Leader of Knitted Knockers Canberra Branch said “Knitted Knockers Canberra Branch is very grateful for the support provided by the CSCC Community Rewards Program, without which we would not be able to continue to provide these much-loved prostheses to the women who have undergone a mastectomy.  We hope to continue this valued relationship with the CSCC into the future.”
