For over 60 years, the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) has been Australia’s leading resource for breastfeeding information and support services, offering essential guidance to over 80,000 mothers each year. ABA also provides up-to-date information and continuing education for thousands of health professionals working with mothers and babies.

Founded in 1964 by 6 Melbourne mothers as the Nursing Mothers’ Association, ABA has grown into a nationwide community, still driven by the mother-to-mother support that inspired its beginning.

Canberra Southern Cross Club is proud to support 30 ABA volunteers in the ACT region, including Breastfeeding Counsellors and Community Educators who have completed a Certificate IV in Breastfeeding Education, with an additional four trainee volunteers working toward their certification.

These passionate individuals empower local mothers through personal support, education, and community-building. From a state-of-the-art online information hub, the 24-hour Breastfeeding Helpline, LiveChat, and app to local support groups, and breastfeeding-friendly programs, ABA offers mothers a range of resources to help them confidently breastfeed. They also advocate to raise community awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and human milk to child and maternal health.

Through the Community Rewards program, we help ABA continue this invaluable work. Our funding allows volunteers to access vital training, attend conferences, and enhance their skills to better serve Canberra’s families.

This program directly benefits Canberra’s families by helping ABA volunteers connect with the 6,000 babies born here each year. Through ABA’s programs, families can find support, share experiences, and build a strong local network centered on maternal and child health.
