The Parlour Social

1-4pm Sunday 8 July, Jamison

Sunday afternoon Jazz at Jamison – enjoy three hours of free live jazz from 1pm in the lounge.

Making a welcome return to Jazz at Jamison is the brilliant ragtime and stride pianist Robbie Mann and his high-energy traditional jazz band The Parlour Social.

They’ll be handpicking some of their favourite tunes from the ragtime greats and the hedonistic bedlam that was Jelly Roll Morton, and evoke the joyful sounds of Fats Waller, while tipping their collective hat to the 1940s ‘Frisco revivalists such as Lu Watters and Turk Murphy.

This popular band of young Canberra musicians captures the spirit of the almost-lost golden age of classic jazz, and perhaps even spin a few new yarns of their own.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the joy of ragtime and stride piano and the hot, foot tapping rhythm of early traditional jazz. Experience, also, some of the Classical masterpieces transformed in a fun way by the rhythms of Ragtime.
