Southern X Stromlo to Close

The Canberra Southern Cross Club announced today that Southern X Stromlo will close its doors. “The café had reached a ‘fork in the road’ where to be viable a significant investment in the facilities would be required” said CSCC CEO Ian Mackay

“For us to continue at Stromlo we needed the café to be profitable. Our landlord ANU has been generous in allowing a period of time for us to establish the business, but understandably both they, and we, need to act commercially. For us, continuing at Stromlo would not be in the best interest of our Members given the costs of staffing, rental and investment required.”

“I’d like to thank our hard working team, who will be placed in other roles with the Club, as well as our Members and workers on the mountain who supported the venture with regular visits. Our Stromlo brand coffee provided exclusively for the Club by Lonsdale Street Roasters will still be available at Woden, Tuggeranong, Jamison, Yacht Club and Snapper.”

The last day of trade for Southern X Stromlo will be Monday 23 October. Free coffee will be available on the final morning of trade from 9am until 11am for Southern Cross Club members that wish to pay a final visit.
