Tara Byrne, Event Sales Manager
I grew up in Wellington, a small country town in central west NSW. At 18, I moved to Canberra and started work as a management trainee at Rydges Hotels and Resorts.
I joined the Canberra Southern Cross Club in 2010 as Events Booking Coordinator and then Event Sales Manager at the Yacht Club. In 2015 I joined the Corporate Sales Team looking after events at our Woden, Tuggeranong and Jamison venues, working closely with our fantastic team to exceed our guests’ expectations.
Tara’s tip: Begin early to ensure that the process is smooth and a lot less stressful leading up to the event.
Orsi Jobbagy, Event Sales Coordinator
I grew up in the European country of Hungary and moved to Scotland at 19 to study International Business Management.
While studying I worked as a Conference and Banquet Coordinator at a British hotel chain and quickly developed a passion for event planning.
Soon after graduating, I moved to Australia and joined the Canberra Southern Cross Club in 2017. My degree, together with my experience allows me to understand each client’s vision for their event, so I can transform it into a memorable occasion.
Orsi’s tip: Set early deadlines to avoid last-minute changes.
Sam Read, Event Sales Manager Yacht Club
I grew up in Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast, and relocated to Canberra at 22, where I trained to be a Property Manager. I enjoy working in customer service, and gained experience in a range of different roles.
I began my career in hospitality at the Kingston Hotel restaurant in 2016, and then moved to Restaurant / Functions Operations Manager. In 2018 I joined the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club as the Event Sales Manager and ensure that all client expectations are met by myself and the team.
Sam’s tip: Prior planning is essential to ensure that the event runs smoothly on the day.
