Heart Support Australia is the peak national body supporting and advocating for Australians affected by heart disease. They are a national organisation providing support, encouragement, and education to heart disease patients and their families. Established in 1989 in Canberra, their mission is to facilitate the transition from hospital to home and provide ongoing support for heart disease patients in Australia. Their goal is to stop cardiac events and improve the lives of those living with heart disease in Australia.

Dr Christian Verdicchio Heart Support Australia’s CEO said “Heart Support Australia is rapidly expanding our locations across the country, especially in regional areas to cater to the growing number of patients living with heart disease. Locally in the ACT area, we have peer support groups in Canberra and Queanbeyan, and are active in the local hospitals providing bedside support to those in hospital thanks to our Hospital Patient Visitor Program.”

Their support programs have helped thousands of Australians across the country achieve improved physical and psychosocial health outcomes over the years. Their groups provide a safe space to receive education, discuss concerns, and increase social interaction leading to improved overall health. Heart Support Australia is also the only organisation nationally to train and coordinate Hospital Patient Visitors to attend various hospitals around the country providing individual bedside peer support to those patients in need after a newly diagnosed heart condition or surgery.
