An Evening with Rob de Castella

Rob de Castella is a legend of Australian sport.

‘Deek’ was Australian of the Year in 1983 and winner of the Gold Medal in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986. He has won countless other medals, awards and accolades but perhaps most of all, he ignited in us a passion for running. When awarded Australian of the Year he said he was ‘very proud and very privileged to do something he enjoyed that excited so many people.’

Rob lives in Canberra and runs a successful business, Deek’s Health Foods, and counts healthy eating and nutrition as one of his key interests. He holds a black belt in karate, has an interest in good whiskeys and is a Director of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation. The Foundation has inspired hundreds of indigenous Australians to run a marathon and used that experience to create role models and  inspire others.

Red Gum smoked salt grass lamb rack from Flinders Island, finished on a wood fire, served with smoked potato puree and fresh seasonal vegetables

Mango dessert with honeycomb whipped house made mascarpone and local crunch

Famous Australian Cheeses
Artisan cheeses, served with dried fruits, poached pear, quince paste, candied walnuts, lavosh bread and crackers. Includes Maffra Cheese Company Cloth Aged Cheddar, Tarwin Blue from South Gippsland and Milawa Brie from the King Valley.


The price is $95pp and seating is in tables of 10. Bookings of less than 10 may be required to share.

A matched wine package is available for $20, and includes a local Canberra region wine, the 2016 Mt. Majura Pinot Gris, the ‘Bold Colonial Red’ 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon grown by Rob’s brother Will de Castella, and a St. Huberts ‘The Stag’ 2016 Pinot Noir. St Hubert’s in the Yarra Valley (Vic) was started by Rob’s great grandfather Hubert de Castella in 1862.
