Canberra Southern Cross Club and Canberra Yacht Club strengthen partnership

Two of Canberra’s iconic organisations, The Canberra Southern Cross Club and The Canberra Yacht Club, announced today they had forged even stronger ties through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding that provides a framework for both organisations to further develop the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club for the benefit and use of both Canberra Southern Cross Club Members and Canberra Yacht Club members.

The agreement covers a fifteen year period and was signed by Canberra Southern Cross President Mr John Lewis and Canberra Yacht Club Commodore Mr Howard Faulks in a ceremony at the Yacht Club in Mariner Place Yarralumla.

Mr Lewis commented, “The Yacht Club is a vital part of our offer to the 80,000 plus Members of our Club. This partnership provides us a framework for both partners to flourish. The precinct is a special part of the lake foreshore and we plan to make it a place where all Canberrans and tourists can enjoy its beauty.”

The Commodore of Canberra Yacht Club Mr Howard Faulks added “This agreement highlights the strength of the partnership, where mutual benefits can be realised. It will allow the Canberra Yacht Club to continue to grow and develop sailing programs and activities that support all members and the wider community.

The first outcome of the new partnership is a newly refurbished Fish and Chip shop and café, opening at the Yacht Club in early September.  Called Snapper, it will trade seven days per week, offering fresh fish and chips, a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cold beverages and good coffee by the lake.

Canberra Southern Cross Club CEO Ian Mackay, said the Club was delighted to be opening the new venture in time for Spring. “Snapper is perfectly located and will serve what we believe is the best fresh fish and chips in Canberra for our Members to enjoy with a glass of wine by the lake.  In summer we plan to offer live music on Saturday afternoons so locals and tourists can enjoy the location even more.”

Snapper will officially open on Friday September 12, just before the 2014 Floriade festival.
