1972 - now
The Canberra Southern Cross Club has been an institution in the Canberra community for more than thirty five years, enjoying a reputation for providing great entertainment, quality and affordable dining and hosting events that bring the community together.
It was first established on 23rd August 1972 by 2,500 founding members. The founding directors took great care to position the Club as a family club that had a focus on providing for families with a broad range of activities and programs. They even went so far as to mortgage their own homes in order to get the Club up and running, something that would be almost unheard of today.
Since that time the Club has grown exponentially, attracting generations of family members and new arrivals who continue to enjoy meals with their families, Christmas parties, sports dinners and movies in the school holidays.
The vision and personal investment of our founding members lives on with the development and acquisition of facilities such as the new Events Centre, Pitch n Putt Golf Course, Tuggeranong and Woden Indoor Sports Stadiums and the MV Southern Cross.
And with the recent acquisition of the Western Districts Rugby Union Club Pty Ltd (Wests), the Club is now able to provide a highly reputable, quality service to north-side residents as well.
People are the lifeblood of our Club and we acknowledge the importance of our members and volunteers who, through their enduring loyalty, allow us to continue to provide exceptional services and facilities. |
