During 2008 the Club committed to provide significant funding to three organisations for a period of three years. After considerable Board debate, the following three were selected to receive $30,000 funding each per year for specific programs:
Marymead – The Club has partnered with Marymead’s Child and Family Counselling Service to run the Circle of Security group – a twenty week intensive group counselling course which helps to build bonding and attachment between parents and young children, particularly where the relationship is very troubled. Marymead has already seen measurable results in the lives of the children and families who have participated.
Karinya House – The Club’s financial commitment will allow Karinya to run its “Caseworker-Education Connection” project for the Mothers and Babies program. This will enable Karinya to continue to provide early intervention and continuity of care to women and children who are among the most vulnerable in our community.
Australian Catholic University – The Club’s funds will provide assistance to young people and families through two scholarships (Aloysius Morgan and Canberra Southern Cross Club scholarships) to assist talented but disadvantaged ACT students. The Club is also offering additional support in the form of a research partnership with ACU National’s Institute of Child Protection Studies to the value of $75,000 over three years (including a PhD scholarship) to improve practice in the care and protection of children, young people and families. |
