Responsible Gaming & Clubcare
The Canberra Southern Cross Club has the following policies on the Responsible Sale of Alcohol and Problem Gambling.
Responsible Sale of Alcohol
The Board has adopted CLUBCARE, a service provided by LIFELINE, to assist with the management of its responsibility for gaming practices within the club.
Club staff will:
- Maintain standards of sobriety on the premises by refusing to sell alcohol to members or guests with visible signs of intoxication.
- Refuse admission to the Club premises of any person who, in the judgement of the door staff or duty manager, is intoxicated or affected by drugs.
- Assist any person on the premises who appears to be intoxicated or affected by drugs by offering to call a taxi or other service for the safe custody of the member or guest.
- Post notices in the club to advise members and guests of the Club's rules.
- Ask for identification from persons seeking to purchase or consume alcohol on the premises if they suspect that the person might be under 18 years. Only photographic ID will be accepted.
Problem Gambling
The Club will post notices in the Club advising members that:
- They may seek assistance from management if they are of the opinion they have a gambling problem; and
- Gambling is addictive in some people and help should be sought if the member is addicted.
Members identifying themselves as problem gamblers will be excluded from the club. A member who has been brought to Management's attention as a possible problem gambler may be interviewed by a Gambling Contact Officer and the CEO and if in his or her opinion the member is a problem gambler he or she is then excluded from the club.
The Club will provide support for problem gamblers by maintaining a service which assists problem gamblers to identify their problem and implement a program to refrain from gambling.
The Club will not advertise gambling services that encourage members to spend more than they can afford.
The Club will not allow persons under 18 to gamble or be subject to material that will encourage them to gamble.
