1972 - 2007
Thirty five years may not seem a long time ago for the 2,500 founding members that back on 23rd August 1972 gave life to a new Club, which undoubtedly is now an institution in the Canberra Community.
However, for our younger members under 35 years of age (and we have 27,365), the Club does have a long history and tradition of service to members. Many of these members enjoyed meals with their families, trips to the snow, Christmas parties, sports dinners and movies in the school holidays. There were also the discos and good times in Henry's and Video Art, which now hosts many a birthday party.
Our Club is unique as an institution. The founding directors took great care to position the Club as a family club that had a focus on providing for families with a broad range of activities and programs. The founding directors even went so far as to mortgage their own homes in order to get the Club up and running, something that would be almost unheard of today. Henry's Family Restaurant is but one example of the Board's early vision for the Club. That vision is still focussed today and is further evidenced by the Pitch n Putt Golf Course, Tuggeranong and Woden Indoor Sports Stadiums and the Club's support for the CYC Sailing School.
The goodwill of members and volunteers must be acknowledged as the Club is about its people and we are indeed fortunate to have an enduring and loyal membership.
